This process consists of introducing a very high volume of water or other proprietary chemicals into dry and expansive soils in an effort fo fully saturate and expand the soil prior to construction. The soil is then generally capped with an impermeable material just below the surface to help maintain the increased moisture content. Geotechnical engineers across the state widely accept this form of remediation and many recommend it on a regular basis.
When injecting near an existing structure or paving, the use of a vertical moisture protection barrier may be used to prevent potential distress to the existing structure or paving. The need is on a case by case basis as directed by the geotechnical engineer.
Following moisture treatment, the use of a six to eight mil polyethylene sheet or other similar impervious material may be placed just below the surface to prevent long-term moisture loss. This can be especially helpful around the perimeter of the foundation, as this area is most susceptible.
